By fourteen years old she was showcasing her
voice and on-stage presence in regional beauty pageants, and no
one was surprised that she was crowned “queen” of the South
Texas Region! Today she’s still a show off, still gifted, still
beautiful, but she’s royalty on a much higher level!
In 1991, Lisa Lamb, became the lead singer
for a Kingsville based Tejano band called “Mestizo.” As the
opening act for well known singer Alex Montez, Lisa grabbed the
attention of the star producer and they made plans to work on a
new project together. It would launch her career into the bright
lights!
With Lisa’s first album, “I Want To Dream”
finished, Alex shopped the project to RCA/BMG Records which
didn’t have a Tejano label—until they heard Lisa! They debuted
her album in May of 1995, just a month after super-star Selena’s
death. Everyone thought Lisa’s album would be buried in the
fan’s mourning and the media focus on the singer’s tragic end.
Instead her album took off as the public looked to her to fill
Selena’s spot! Tours and TV shows in the US and Mexico followed
with extensive radio promotions. Her marketing campaign raised
the promotion standards to new levels! Then Lisa became the talk
of the industry when she received the Grammy nomination for her
2nd album, “Destiny.” Her star was rising!
But there was a storm brewing on the
horizon. Lisa was getting high on her musical success, the love
of her fans, and a growing cocaine addiction. Everyone was
grabbing for a piece of the action. Her new found love with Alex
Montez was growing more turbulent all the time and he was unable
to protect her as they drifted apart. When Alex almost succeeded
in committing suicide, it took her down! There had to be
something better than this ahead! There was!
Lisa was born-again on August 26, 1996!
Alex and Lisa got back together and were married in 1997. They
began attending church together and after four years of intense
study and discipleship answered a call to become pastors of La
Vida Regional Cuadrangular. Today Lisa is a lead singer in the
English and Mexican church bands, still capturing the hearts of
her audience (including the Lord she loves!). She’s still
showing-off, only now it’s as a wife, mother of Alyssa and Ana,
co-pastor, and a Princess of God!
