Uturn! High School Age Ministries
Our youth (grades 9-12) are an important part of our church. It’s our goal to ignite, shape, and focus young people to be enthusiastic and excited about God! The focus of our ministry to youth is on developing a maturing relationship with Jesus Christ and with one another. Lessons, discussions, and activities encourage growth in all areas of living—social and spiritual!
Sundays at 8:30 and 10:30 AM
Youth meet with the adults for praise and worship as a family. After worship, youth are dismissed to go to the Uturn Building for Bible teaching specifically geared for youth challenges. These services focus more on discipleship, but are not as intense as The Core Discipleship meetings (see next paragraph).
Sundays at 5:00 PM - The Core
The Core Discipleship: Discipleship of our youth is extremely important to us. The Core Discipleship program meets on Sunday nights at 5:00 PM. It's designed to help young people experience a reality of relationship with Jesus that becomes a lifestyle affecting every aspect of their lives 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This series of studies is comprised of four phases that includes an intense, interactive, practical process. We have seen many students work through these phases discovering their gifts and the power of a personal relationship with Jesus.
Wednesdays at 4:00 PM
Uturn Open: The Uturn Building is typically open from 4-6 PM on most Wednesdays for tutoring, games, or just hanging out after school. All games are open to the students during this time and we have a great time.
Wednesdays at 6:00 PM
Uturn: This is our Wednesday night program. It is highly evangelistic and designed to give the students the time of their lives! While we go to great lengths to provide a fun and exciting time with great food and fellowship, we never minimize our purpose: to introduce the students to a radical relationship with Jesus Christ.
Uturn starts at 6:00 PM with great food. Then we pack the night with lots of Christian music, tons of things to do, games to play, and people to hang out with! There is also an enthusiastic, fast-moving, Bible-based, youth-oriented talk to help young people see the need for a lifelong commitment to our living God! Topics also help the teens bring the reality of Christianity to their day-to-day lives. Teens have opportunities to express themselves musically and dramatically with special music and skits.
Special Events
In addition to regular meetings, youth participate in several special events through the year. These include game nights, movie nights, outings (beach, bowling, etc.), and ministry camps.
Acquire the Fire
Every year, youth from Uturn attend a 2-day conference in Houston called Acquire the Fire presented by Teen Mania ministries. It is an incredible time to ignite the passion of the Lord in young people. There are times of worship, teaching, drama, concerts, and fellowship that are completely geared towards the youth of this generation.
Youth Camp
Every summer our students go to a one-week camp where they get away from the daily pressures of teen life and take a close look at their lives from a godly perspective. These events are always a blast for the students. Many come back home with dramatically changed lives as a result of the worship, teaching, and ministry at the camp. In the past we have attended camps with Youth for the Nations (a ministry of Christ for the Nations Bible College) and Teen Mania (a youth missions ministry).
Youth Workers
There is an incredible team of youth workers that help make the ministry of Uturn happen. The various areas of ministry within Uturn include: food services, outdoor activities (basketball, disc golf, etc.), indoor activities (video games, foosball, pool), and security. It is through these venues that youth workers are able to influence and minister to the students that attend Uturn. If you would like to be a part of this exciting ministry, contact the youth pastor. (Note: A background check is performed for all youth workers.)
