Leviticus 19:28 — You shall not make any cuttings in your
flesh for the dead, nor tattoo any marks on you: I am the
Lord. (NKJV)
Leviticus 21:5 — ‘They shall not make any bald place
on their heads, nor shall they shave the edges of their beards
nor make any cuttings in their flesh.
Mark 5:1-5 — Then they came to the other side of the sea,
to the country of the Gadarenes. And when He had come out of the
boat, immediately there met Him out of the tombs a man with an
unclean spirit, who had his dwelling among the tombs; and
no one could bind him, not even with chains, because he had
often been bound with shackles and chains. And the chains had
been pulled apart by him, and the shackles broken in pieces;
neither could anyone tame him. And always, night and day, he was
in the mountains and in the tombs, crying out and cutting
himself with stones. (NKJV)
1 Kings 18:26-29 — So they took the bull which was given
them, and they prepared it, and called on the name of
Baal from morning even till noon, saying, “O Baal, hear us!” But
there was no voice; no one answered. Then they leaped
about the altar which they had made. And so it was, at noon,
that Elijah mocked them and said, “Cry aloud, for he is a
god; either he is meditating, or he is busy, or he is on a
journey, or perhaps he is sleeping and must be awakened.”
So they cried aloud, and cut themselves, as was their custom,
with knives and lances, until the blood gushed out on them. And
when midday was past, they prophesied until the time of
the offering of the evening sacrifice. But there was
no voice; no one answered, no one paid attention. (NKJV)
Deuteronomy 14:1-2 — “You are the children of the
Lord your God; you
shall not cut yourselves nor shave the front of your head for
the dead. For you are a holy people to the
Lord your God, and
the Lord has chosen
you to be a people for Himself, a special treasure above all the
peoples who are on the face of the earth.
